 CLOUD COMPUTING

Since the world has become a global village, the importance of  cloud computing can not be ignored in the recent times .In this post i intend to explore the importance of cloud computing, so please join me to start discussion on, what is cloud computing? It is simply provision of computing services like online databases, servers, storage media etc to the organisations who pay for these services in order to achieve significant economies of scale and to minimise their costs as well. Nowadays, nearly all multinational companies are taking cloud computing services. For example, A lot of plethora of personalised cloud treatments are being developed on cloud for various healthcare companies. Apart from that, financial services companies protect their data with the help of cloud services. Moreover, video game developers often use this technology to provide online games to the gamers.

HISTORY OF CLOUD COMPUTING

Cloud computing initially has been around since the early 2000s, but the concept of computing as a service was emerged far back in the 1960s, when computer bureaus would allow companies to rent time on a mainframe, rather than have to buy one themselves. These 'time-sharing' services were largely overtaken by the rise of the PC, which made owning a computer much more affordable, and then in turn by the rise of corporate data centres where companies would store vast amounts of data.

BENEFITS OF CLOUD COMPUTING:

  • With the help of cloud services, companies can significantly reduce their capital expenditure to purchase of hardware or softwares and can completely rely on online servers and IT experts managing the after sales service.
  • Cloud computing services can increase speed of operations for companies as vast amounts of computing resources can be provisioned in minutes, typically with just a few mouse clicks, giving businesses a lot of flexibility and taking the pressure off capacity planning.
  • Organisations can deliver right amount of IT services and achieve large economies of scale by providing exact computing power, storage bandwidth etc.
  • Removes the need of installing onsite data-centres (hardware and software) and companies can focus on more important goals.
  • From security point of view, it helps cloud service providers protects the data, apps and infrastructure from all potential threats.

TYPES OF CLOUD COMPUTING:

Cloud computing is broadly categorised in 3 types, Public Cloud, Private Cloud and a Hybrid Cloud. brief explanation is as follows:

  • Public Cloud: They are owned and operated by a third-party cloud service providers, which deliver their computing resources, like servers and storage, over the Internet. All hardware, software, and other supporting infrastructure is owned and managed by the cloud provider.
  • Private Cloud: They are used exclusively by a single business or organisation. A private cloud can be physically located on the company’s on-site data-centre. A private cloud is one in which the services and infrastructure are maintained on a private network.
  • Hybrid Cloud: Hybrid clouds combine public and private clouds, bound together by technology that allows data and applications to be shared between them
